January Daily Painting Challenge Day 1 of 31
“Glass House Mountains Farm Study 1”
6.5 x 10″ Acrylic on Watercolour Paper

Happy New Year friends.

In order to start 2019 in the right way I am doing a daily painting challenge.

Each day I will do a minimum of 1 small sketch or study and post it up here.

This painting is a quick sketch based on a scene I saw as I was driving to the Glass House Mountains to do an early morning bush walk. This was a farm setting near one of the mountains and I was struck by the beautiful lake at the foothills of the mountain. Water and waterholes in the landscape is a recurring theme for me and something I wish to explore further.

My goal is to try out new ideas and different compositions. Experiment, play and have fun. By painting daily of course it will improve my skills as well.

I will also post here what I learned from the painting. Most of them will be quick 10 minute studies.

I invite you all to follow along.

Today I learned about how the painting surface affects the way you paint. The watercolour paper feels totally different and will take a bit of getting used to.
I hope you enjoy following along or joining in.

I will sell most of these sketches on Ebay for no reserve auctions. Some will be used as ideas for larger works, and some may become episodes of Learn To Paint TV.
