Day 30 of 31 – January Painting Challenge

January Daily Painting Challenge Day 30 of 31
“Close Up of Glasshouse Mountains”
12 x 16″ Water Based Oils on Canvas

Day 30 of the 31 day challenge for January.

Further experimentation today with the water based oil paints. This is the second day in a row of using them and I have to say I felt like I was getting the feel of them today. I will definitely persist with them as they give the benefits of oils without the toxic nature.

The subject today is one of the Glasshouse Mountains. My wife and I caught the train from Landsborough to Brisbane and I madly sketched the Glasshouse Mountains as we went by.

I have been studying Australian contemporary landscape artists of late. One whom I love is Fred Williams. In the sixties he redefined the way artists viewed and interpreted the landscape. This painting draws on some of Fred’s ideas as its inspiration.

My goal is to try out new ideas and different compositions. Experiment, play and have fun. By painting daily of course it will improve my skills as well.

I will sell most of these sketches on Ebay for no reserve auctions. Some will be used as ideas for larger works, and some may become episodes of Learn To Paint TV.
