This painting is from the series of photos I took in the Outback Nov 2020. It was an hour south of Winton and 44 degrees in early November.
After driving for a few hours I had arrived at a dry creek bed with no signs of life. Just a searing hot wind from the northwest that left me questioning why I wasn't at home in the studio enjoying a cool drink and painting from photos.
I took off on foot and walked up the dry creek bed in search of water and signs of life.
Forty-five minutes later I came across this small dam with lush trees growing and casting a brilliant reflection in the water. All life for miles around was concentrated in this one spot. It has since become the subject of a number of paintings.
Very glad I made the trip to find this the last waterhole south of Winton
